Zombie Driver Review

Zombie Driver is one of the most simplistic that you could come across, the latest in the line of ID @Xbox games; Zombie Driver consists of several repeating concepts throughout the game which is executed well throughout the duration of your challenge to explore and investigate through combat the small town.

Zombie Driver allows the player to use what is a tried and tested concept which is easily relatable to that of a free PC game on one of those websites.  The campaign isn’t all that to rave about but does fill a great example of what the game is exactly about, simply getting from point A to Point B whilst killing every zombie in the way.

By doing this the game can become a little repetitive as previously mentioned but the numerous upgrades and different weapons coupled with a few boss battles and different types of Zombies means that the game can be interesting.  Personally the main story just seems to be your run of the mill go here and do that type of things and very rarely challenges the player to actually do something outstanding but other features do make this game worthwhile.

The Slaughter mode of the game which is essentially a free form still challenges the player to combat wave after wave of zombies whilst allowing you to upgrade your weapons freely as the levels move on up in difficulty.  The real challenge is ascertaining a system which the player will use to maximise how far he or she can go as the rounds tick on this is more vital as the enemies get substantially harder.  The mode ends when the car is destroyed with a wide range of vehicles and maps the combinations of rounds make the player come back time and time again.

Blood race is the other available mode on offer to players and is a style of death race involving the Zombie element again, adding a competitive edge to the gameplay aside from the leader-boards which we have seen in the other available modes.  However this mode rarely makes me want to go back for more and seems to not hit the benchmarks of other games which have done this style well in the past.

The available options in Zombie Driver such as new cars, maps and weapons make the game deep enough for you to get some value for money.   But don’t be fooled if you don’t like this concept of an almost 2 dimensional car racing round a relatively similar style map, this isn’t for you.  Keeping on the graphic side of things, the main boss fights are impressively created and the effects of blood and gore look good but lack that next step element to make you go wow, which you probably wouldn’t expect from an ID @ Xbox game.

In all honesty Zombie Driver is enjoyable at first but seriously lacks a true challenge to call it a good ID @Xbox game, the graphics are what you probably would expect and the variety and combinations of items and maps can be used to the players advantage well.  But it simply didn’t have me coming back for more, and the lasting feeling of once you’ve done one mission you’ve done them all was in full force. Thanks to Xboxfor the game.
