We`re approaching Halloween, and it`s the time of year that I love getting those scary games out. The Evil Within is a favourite of mine, and this year, we`ve seen games such as The Park and Resident Evil make their way to our consoles. But this week, I`ve managed to get an experience with a new game that`s out on the market. Emily Wants to play. She certainly does want to play, and it`s a game that`s actually different. Is it a game worth picking up as we approach the season? Or is it one to leave? For the 31st October, it`s fully worth getting.
Emily wants to play is a game developed by Shawn Hitchcock, and published by SKH Apps. It made it`s way to the Steam market 10 months ago, but a few weeks back, it was launched to the Xbox community and PS4 players. The game is about survival. You`re a pizza man. You`ve come to the house with that hot, margherita pizza and it`s the last stop of your shift. But, it`s not as it seems. Upon arriving the house, you`ll see that it`s empty. Once inside, the door locks, and you`re locked in for the night with Emily and her dolls. You`re going to need to survive the night now, without being killed by Emily or one of her three dolls.

Now, the game is a survival horror, and each hour acts as a level. New things will become unlocked and will occur in different hours of the game, and you`re going to need to explore the house and find out clues into what is going on. You`re going to have to work out how to interact with the dolls and Emily herself, without getting killed. Now the game, is a game that is excellent to play, with the lights out, and your headset on. It`s a truly terrifying experience, and really puts you in the front foot of the game and really gives you that eerie atmosphere. Combine that with Halloween night, and you`re in for a real treat.
The game itself is not long at all. You`ll complete it within an hour, but the hour will drag, and will keep you enticed into what is an experience. Find clues and information into the house, into the history of Emily, and her dolls. You`re going to need to watch your back though, as the game is full of jump scares. Jump scares act in the way of kills, and if you`ve just had a jump scare, then you`ve been killed, and the game restarts at the beginning of the hour you`re in. Now, combine this with a dark room, and a headset on, it really is a terrifying experience.
It`s not a game that`s going to offer a real challenge. I do see some similarities between this game and the Grudge, which was a PC game where you`d have to explore the house without being seen or killed. You`re going to need to make the right moves, and the right choices in where you explore. As just aiming the camera around to look behind and look back could prove to be deadly.
Emily Wants to play is a short game, that is truly terrifying and one that will prove to be rather un-nervy as you go into the night. Combine this though with Halloween coming up and you could have yourself in for a real fright. But at the price of £3.99, it`s a game that truly is worth picking up regardless, as you spend the night with Emily and her dolls, and don’t forget, Emily truly wants to Play.
A huge thank you to Shawn Hitchcock for supplying us with a review copy of Emily Wants to Play.
