Recently, I`ve had the chance to play one of the newest additions to the Xbox Preview Program, and that was one of Astroneer. A game that was very much in its early birth stages, and a game that I must say has a lot of potential. I`m intrigued to see where that one goes in the future. But I`ve also had the chance to take on another title that has recently joined the Xbox Preview Program, and that is one of Pit People, developed and published by The Behemoth. Is it a game that`s going to be a good one? Or will it be a flop? I quite enjoyed it, and if you like turn-based games, you`ll do too.
Pit People is developed and published by The Behemoth, the team behind Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theatre just to name a few, is a turn-based game where you follow a series of mini quests and stories that can lead into one big story. You`re going to come up against enemies and using a turn-based approach and strategy, you`re going to need to think how you can defeat your enemies and wipe them out. Think of it as a board game. You need to make sure you`re next move is right and trap your enemies so you can destroy them. Strategy is going to be key throughout the game, and it`s something that you`re going to need to do incredibly well. And when there`s a time where you`re feeling frustrated and you can`t defeat an enemy, you have the option to turn on an “auto-pilot” so to speak, where the game will automatically move your players to the positions and take out your enemies. But that`d be dull playing with that on all the time, and I found it much, much more fun and difficult having to work things out (Of course).

It made for quite a fun game. I haven’t played too many games like this on the Xbox One, and I must say, previous games I`ve played where the approach has been turn-based games, I`ve quite disliked (Armello is a standout for me in that category) but there`s something about Pit People that I was really able to get into, and I can`t quite put my finger on it.
There is also a really good range of customization to be had within the game. You`re able to capture other animals and characters as you travel through the game and are able to get them to fight alongside you in your team. You`re able to equip a wide range of normal weapons to the weird and wacky, all of which make the game slightly different. Different characters are going to suit your style best, as they all come with their own unique set of strengths and weaknesses, all of which may help or hinder you later in the game. You`ll find that you enjoy using a set of characters and stick with them all the way. The more you use the same characters in the team, the more you`ll rank up their level system, and the better they`ll become. I must admit, I had a team of four (Which is the max you can have) and kept them throughout. But the range of options that you can end up having is quite good.
It`ll be interesting to see as it`s a game that when is fully finished, you`d expect it to have a form of online co-op and multiplayer options. You`ll be able to have battles against friends in Multiplayer and have them team up with you for the co-op side of things. A range of tournaments and options are also on offer so you`re not going to be short. You`ll be able to take on 1v1 battles and 1v2 and so much more.
It`s a game that when it comes to being fully finished, I think you`re going to have a very fun and exciting game. At a much later stage in development than other games we`ve played recently through the program, it`s a game that already fills jam packed and a game that`s a bit different. It`s certainly re-instigated my likeness for the turn-based games, and I`m really looking forward to seeing how it ends up finishing. It`s already looking really good and strong from early impressions. I can’t wait to see how Pit People fares when it comes to the full circle.
A huge thank you to XCN for supplying us with a review and early access copy of Pit People.
